Stop over-exfoliating your skin
More exfoliation does NOT mean better skin.
One of the biggest mistakes I see is people trying to “scrub away” breakouts, texture, oil, or dryness when in reality they’re damaging their barrier and making everything worse.
Your skin can only handle so much stimulation before it starts reacting.
Signs you may be over-exfoliating:
Tight, shiny skin
Burning when products are applied
Random breakouts
Increased redness
Flaking or peeling
Skin feeling both oily AND dry
Makeup suddenly not sitting right
Sensitivity to products you used to tolerate
This can happen from:
Using acids too often
Layering too many active ingredients
Physical scrubs
Using multiple exfoliating products together
Not giving your skin recovery time
What to do instead:
✔ Simplify your routine
✔ Focus on hydration + barrier repair
✔ Use gentle cleansers
✔ Reduce exfoliation frequency
✔ Stop chasing “instant results”
Healthy skin is balanced skin.
Your barrier should feel calm not raw, tight, or constantly irritated.
This is why I focus so heavily on barrier-first corrective skincare.
The goal is long-term skin health, not temporary over-processing.
If your skin feels “angry,” your barrier is probably asking for help.
