Why Your Skin Changes During Stress, Hormones & Illness

Good morning, MeauxCo family! 💚

Have you ever felt like your skincare routine was working perfectly… and then suddenly your skin seemed to have a mind of its own?

You’re not imagining it.

One of the biggest lessons you’ll learn as an esthetician is that skin doesn’t exist in isolation. Your skin reflects what’s happening inside your body.

😰 Stress

When we’re under stress, our bodies release stress hormones that can affect oil production and inflammation.

You may notice:

• More breakouts

• Increased redness

• Delayed healing

• Dehydrated skin

• Increased sensitivity

Stress can also impact sleep, hydration, and daily habits all of which play a role in skin health.

🌸 Hormonal Changes

Hormones fluctuate throughout life and can significantly impact the skin.

Clients may experience:

• Breakouts along the jawline and chin

• Increased oil production

• Dryness

• Changes in skin texture

• Increased pigmentation concerns

This is why it’s so important to ask about recent hormonal changes during your consultation.

🤒 Illness

When the body is fighting an illness, it naturally prioritizes healing and recovery.

During that time, clients may notice:

• Dull-looking skin

• Dehydration

• Increased sensitivity

• Flaking

• Slower skin recovery

Even certain medications taken during illness can temporarily change how the skin behaves.

🌿 The MeauxCo Philosophy

At MeauxCo, we don’t chase symptoms we look at the whole picture.

When a client says,

“My skincare stopped working,”

our first question shouldn’t be,

“What products are you using?”

Instead, ask questions like:

✔ Have you been under more stress lately?

✔ Have there been any hormonal changes?

✔ Have you been sick recently?

✔ Are you taking any new medications?

✔ Has your sleep or water intake changed?

Those answers often tell us far more than the skin alone.

💡 Tip

One treatment won’t “fix” stress, hormones, or illness but it can support the skin while the body works through those changes.

Sometimes the best thing we can do as estheticians is adjust the treatment plan, focus on barrier support, and remind our clients that skin fluctuations are normal.

When clients feel heard instead of judged, they trust you more and that trust is what keeps them coming back.
