About
For decades, the Fitzpatrick scale, created in 1972. It was originally created to predict how white skin would respond to UV exposure (burn vs. tan). It was not designed to assess: ethnic skin differences melanin behavior across populations post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation risk barrier function inflammatory tendencies or treatment response to modern modalities (peels, lasers, microneedling, etc.) It later got expanded to include Types V and VI, but the core model is still UV-centric and outdated for clinical treatment planning today. For years it has been the industry default for assessing skin—but it has inherently excluded the GLOBAL MAJORITY. Roughly 85% of the world are considered people of color, or multicultural. We need to know how to calculate, categorize, and curate a proper skin analysis for this Global Majority. This advanced course introduces the Global Skin Typing System, a more accurate, inclusive, and clinically relevant framework for analyzing and treating skin across all tones, ethnicities, and genetic backgrounds. Designed for professional estheticians and skin practitioners, this class goes beyond surface-level pigmentation and sun response to examine how inflammation patterns, barrier function, melanocyte activity, vascular response, aging tendencies, and trauma sensitivity differ from client to client. You’ll learn how to confidently classify skin using a multidimensional approach that leads to: Safer treatment planning More predictable results Reduced risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation Smarter peel, device, and ingredient selection Stronger client trust and retention This course empowers you to stop guessing, stop overgeneralizing, and start treating skin with true precision. Perfect for: Licensed estheticians, advanced students, educators, and skincare professionals who work with diverse skin types and want to deliver higher-level results with confidence.
